Ergaki Nature Park

Environmental campaign “We don’t want to live at the landfill”

The annual campaign was launched by the Club of young friends of WWF and Ergaki Nature Park “Zharki” (Globeflowers) in 2013 in Ermakovskiy district of Krasnoyarsk krai by cleaning the Migninsk pond lakeside. The initial purpose of the campaign was to enhance public awareness.

Environmental education programs for school children and residents of the district are devoted to the problem of unauthorized landfills and dumps. Since 2014 local community actions have significantly effected development and operation of landfills. The campaign participants have organized plenty of raids to determine location of unauthorized landfills. Regular monitoring helps to identify and cease activity at some landfills with the support of local authorities.

Every year new protected areas joined the campaign. In 2015 the project was supported by the Directorate on protected areas of the Krasnoyarsk krai and some members of the Association of Nature Reserves and National Parks of Altai-Sayan Ecoregion. In 2016 the event organized by 6 protected areas of Krasnoyarsk krai, Republics of Khakassia and Tyva was attended by more than a thousand participants who came out to clean up illegal dumps in their communities.
